Cranbury, NJ (October 10, 2024) – A tragic chain-reaction crash occurred Tuesday morning, October 8, on the New Jersey Turnpike, resulting in the death of a 40-year-old man and injuries to two others. The incident took place in the northbound lanes near mile marker 69 in Middlesex County at approximately 6:50 a.m.
According to officials from the New Jersey State Police, traffic was stopped in the northbound lanes when an SUV collided with a Volkswagen. This initial collision caused the Volkswagen to rear-end a pickup truck and another vehicle. The impact led the pickup to strike the center concrete barrier, and shortly thereafter, the Volkswagen caught fire.
Colin Mahon, the driver of the Volkswagen from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash. The drivers of the pickup truck and SUV sustained minor injuries but were treated at the scene. As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
