Clovis, NM – Volunteer Fire Chief Killed in ATV Accident on SR-77

Clovis, NM (January 25, 2024) – Tragedy struck on Monday, January 22, as Ted Richardson, a 64-year-old volunteer fire chief, was killed in an ATV crash. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the 1600 block of SR-77, northeast of Clovis.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office reported that Richardson’s ATV rolled over onto him while herding cattle in a pasture, rendering him unresponsive. First responders from the Sheriff’s Office and Clovis Fire Department arrived at the scene to find Richardson had succumbed to his injuries.

Richardson, who dedicated over 40 years to the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation, leaving the community mourning the loss of a devoted public servant.
