Dexter, NM (February 28, 2024) – High winds wreaked havoc in Dexter on Tuesday, February 27, causing several fatal accidents and leading to road closures. The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office reported closures on all roads into Dexter and Hagerman, including State Rd 2, due to the dangerous conditions.
Winds, reaching speeds between 40 and 60 miles per hour, contributed to multiple vehicular incidents. Among these, a significant crash on Hwy 285 near Orchard Park Rd resulted in at least one fatality. Specifics of the incidents are still being gathered.
The Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the crashes and working on safety measures.
