Albuquerque, NM – Pilot Injured in Military Plane Crash near Sunport

Albuquerque, NM (May 29, 2024) – A pilot suffered injuries when a military plane crashed and caught fire near Albuquerque Sunport on Tuesday, May 28. Albuquerque Fire Rescue officials reported the plane crashed off the airfield on the south side of the Sunport.

The pilot ejected before the plane ignited and was transported to a hospital in stable condition. A U.S. official confirmed the plane was a new F-35 from the U.S. Marine Corps, being transferred from the Lockheed factory. The plane was piloted by a defense contract management agency pilot during the crash. Authorities continue investigating the incident, with further details to follow.
