Pecos, NM (September 15, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Saturday evening, September 14 near a campground north of Pecos, where a 3-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle. New Mexico State Police reported that the incident took place around 5 p.m. near the intersection of N.M. 63 and Dalton Canyon Road.
The boy and his family were camping in the area with friends and pets. According to police, the driver of a northbound car on N.M. 63 stopped after seeing dogs in the roadway. Once the dogs were removed, the driver continued, unaware that the child remained in the roadway. The driver was unable to see the boy standing by the vehicle, and the child was tragically struck.
Despite the quick response from emergency services, the boy succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have not released the child’s name.
